Secret Six started as the brainchild of Jay Youngless
in 2003, who enlisted the help of his brother Chris Youngless, guitarist
Nate Nieding and vocalist Shane Post to polish and produce the early tracks
for this, the group's debut album. Drawing from the experience of the
musicians assembled in the group, the album contains a variety of musical
styles. The dominant sound on the CD is progressive and shines in tracks
like "Tip Your Bartender" and "Charade." Other tracks such as "I Will" and
"Frogs in Winter" combine pop-rock with piano in the style of Something
Corporate, minus the whining vocals. "Heidi's Eyes" takes the band's
progressive rock style to acoustic guitars for another original sound. The
album ends on a two-part song, "Be Here I Am," an epic rock ballad in the
spirit of '70s progressive rock that would sound excellent with a better
vocal performance.
